Be a water baby

People seemed to have discovered the perfect way to escape the summer heat, dip in the water.  If you know swimming
--- bingo! And if you don’t, this is the right time to learn.  It doesn’t just feel nice to be under water in this season but it
gives the body good exercise also.  Reason why kids, men and women are taking up swimming varies from one to
another.

Swimming was discovered in the Stone Age.  This fact is confirmed from the drawings found in ‘caves of swimmers’ in
Wadi Sora in Egypt.  A sport of prehistoric times yet going strong generation after generation, is truly worth learning.

30-year-old Minal, mother of two, joined swimming on her husband’s insistence.  “He has been after me to join since long
and so here I am finally” says Minal standing at a swimming coaching camp.  For Sanam who is only 11 years old the
reason is to put on height and also because its fun.  Whereas Seema, a young dentist, wanted to learn swimming so that,
on outings to beach, pool and water parks she could enjoy to the core.  There are mamas learning to swim, while
accompanying their kids.

Apart from serving their purposes, swimming does a lot of other good to them too.  Regular swimming tones up the body,
provides good cardiovascular movements.  It also soothes and relaxes the mind.    In addition to this, it regulates
breathing and stimulates blood circulation.   
























While recovering from surgery or injury, swimming is a great replacement to the normal weight-bearing exercises like
running.  Some people started with this sport, after a health problem due to their inability to carry out other exercises.  
But later they liked it too much to quit.

While swimming stays on top, there are other forms of water workouts too.  Namely, Water Aerobic, Water Yoga, Water
exercises.  People now are choosing them as per their likes and needs.  For instance, pregnant ladies prefer Water
Aerobics.

Following are a few precautions to avoid the not so good factors of swimming.  Pregnant ladies, people suffering from
heart, back, joint or inner-ear problems should first consult their doctor.  To prevent ear infection use earplugs while
swimming.  Apply sunscreen to your skin generously to avoid dryness and sunburn.

An addiction that is good both for the body and the mind.  With all the good it does it is no surprise; the health-conscious
crowd are seen taking out time for this summer sport.
