
| IT Developments and Career opportunities in India With the rapid growth in technology all over the world, India has successfully managed to find its niche in the IT world. The facilities and concessions provided by the Government of India to the IT business in the country have transformed the country into a Cyber City. The recent visit of UK PM Tony Blair along with 30 CEOs and chairmen of leading British companies and UK trade and industry secretary Alan Johnson will certainly add fuel to the fire. Of late, there has been a deluge of software industries in India. We are exporting software worth millions to Europe, America and other parts of the world. E-commerce, Remote-processing and business process outsourcing have taken the front seat and are driving India towards technology at a pace which will ensure India to be a Global Hub for technological Innovation. The IT industry today is growing at an alarming rate. Europe, America, Australia and other countries are enamored with the Indian Peninsula complimented with a large pool of IT professionals. The IT industry however is not confined to a few cities in India. The IT developments are in full swing in various cities that boast state-of-the-art software facilities and the presence of a large number of overseas vendors. Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Trivandrum, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Goa, Noida, Delhi, Gurgaon are some IT hotspots having mostly expatriate IT professionals. In today’s world, there has been a huge demand in other IT countries for Indian IT professionals. The reason - Indians have been phenomenon in the IT sector around the globe with their IT-skills and quality of work. About 50% of SEI CMM 5 companies reside in India. The Software industry today offers engineers to work on various platforms like ERP, Mainframes, AS/400, .NET, JAVA, DBA, Quick Test Pro and other technologies. There is a wide range of opportunities to make it big in the software world. Sometimes the industry demands the consultant to work in shifts, which in turn helps them to enhance their performance. Working on ERP is a boon as they are highly paid. QA tends to make things streamlined, which is beneficial for the overall development of the company. In a nutshell, every technology has got a prominent place in the industry. Call centers and business process outsourcing services are growing at an alarming speed. Call centers are very demanding in terms of the working hours. At the same time it is very challenging to be a part of the service industry. The financial stability provided by this industry is competent with any other industry. India being a large pool of English speaking population has allured other countries to outsource their business to India. There are some other companies who have even outsourced their R&D departments to India. The best part of this industry is - a computer literate and a fluent speaker, manages to be a part of this industry, irrelevant of the educational background. On the other hand, the engineering universities and software institutes upgrade us with the latest technology in the market.
