                                                             Standard rates for Indian writers


























Writing is one service amongst all the other services that Indians are offering globally.  Especially at World Wide Web,
freelancing in the field of writing is growing.  Writing is the first option that’s considered by people good with the language
and who can’t afford to do a full time job or even those with a full time job desiring to earn some extra income.  And for
people, who love to write but don’t know from where they can get their first assignment, find it easy to start with their
writing career on Internet.  

On the net the main job for writers involves Web content writing, which can be creative or technical in nature.  There are
numerous websites that allows writers to bid for various writing project.  And interestingly enough the demand for Indian
writers is growing endlessly, reason… they charge quite less as compared to their western counter parts.  If writers from
US/UK on an average charge anywhere above $12 per article, some Indian writers would happily accept $3 per article.  

This huge difference could be any publishers delight; however are we being reasonable writing for such a measly rate? If
the rates are brought down to such an extent, is it a fair remuneration for all the research that goes behind every article.  
Secondly at a later stage, writers would not even research at length and then what comes out may not be as reliable as a
thoroughly researched article.

By charging so less, it’s unfair for those western writers for whom it’s better not to write at all than to write for such a low
fee.  It would hardly make them enough money to pay their electricity and Internet connection bill.  

Amateur and upcoming writers in an attempt to establish themselves in this field, don’t care much for the compensation,
all they want is some experience.  But by doing so have we ever thought where’s this taking us? Unknowingly we are
setting up a standard rate for ourselves, a rate that’s not really appropriate.  

Initially you may work on this rate however as time goes on and you discover only a marginal increment it’s bound to
show in your interest and work.  At that point it will be difficult to increase your rates because there will always be some
writers willing to write at the price of the publisher.

It is hence a major requirement for Indian web writers to set up standard rates for their writings, which would justify their
hard work and creativity.
