| Stop thinking! Ever tried to pause your thought flow? Most of us have no control over their brain. If you don’t believe what I say why don’t you try it right now. Only for 5 seconds stop thinking. I have no idea how many of you could do it however the truth is I could not. This article although is not about how to stop thinking it’s about how to control the commanding organ of our body, The Brain. People who have their mind focused on their priorities are generally successful in life. A focused mind makes our thoughts clearer enabling us to realize our dreams. It’s possible to keep our mind focused only if we have control over our mind. Hence the most important and difficult task would be to control our mind. Ask yourself a few questions; Is my mind under my control? Am I able to focus my mind without getting distracted? Or does my mind makes me think what it wants to? An uncontrolled mind makes our thoughts jump from one place to another rapidly. The mind is restless and lacks in peace. In the ancient times sages practiced meditation for long hours in order to bring their mind under their control. Even today meditation is practiced, by those who know it’s benefits. It not only helps in controlling our thoughts but it also brings peace to our inner self. To meditate sit with your legs folded and close your eyes. Now think about any object you want. Begin with shorter period moving forward you can increase the time limit. For instance, on day 1 you can meditate for 5 minutes and on day 10 you can increase it to 10 minutes or whatever suits you best. Another way of controlling mind is to concentrate on an object for as long as you can. The most popular method is concentrating on flame of a burning candle. Preferably in a dark room as the effect would be stronger. Keep the candle at a distance of about 2 meters and keep your eyes focused on the flames. This will also improve your eyesight. Yoga, which is believed to have healed many serious health complications, is based on the principle of concentration. Concentrating on our breathing system. To control your mind learning to focus is highly recommended. Apart from that regular mind sharpening activities should be done. Meditation is said to be the best mind sharpener. However to add on to it one can also do the following as and when time permits. 1. Use your non- dominant hand as much as you can. This is to make the unused side of brain, work. 2. Work with both your hands at the same time for eg., Stir two cups of coffee simultaneously with one hand for one cup. This stimulates the brain and increases presence of mind. 3. Do mental calculation instead of using the calculator whenever possible this will help in increasing the brainpower. 4. Playing memory games can do wonders for our brain. 5. Take a head massage once in a while it relaxes and soothes the nerves like nothing else. 6. And the most difficult one stop your thought process for a while; initially it will be impossible but as you practice you will be able to do it. A very wise man once said “Our mind is like a child, the more we run after the child the more it will make us follow however once we stop running after and go our way, it starts following us”. This is a very effective method to bring your mind under your control. Don’t follow the mind let the mind follow you. A lot of things that we can or cannot do depends more on our mental ability than on our physical ability. Keep your mental binoculars clean and clear so that you are able to aim at the best! ms_writy@yahoo.com |
